 IMAGINE All the People Campaign

An undertaking of this nature may bring a community together, yet in the process of developing this inward flow of like-minded individuals an outward manifestation of assisting humanity is kindled.

Eckhart Tolle calls this “awakened doing” and Thich Nhat Hahn describes it as “engaged Buddhism”. In Thich Nhat Hanh’s little book, Peace is Every Step, he has a short chapter called Mindfulness Must Be Engaged. His and Eckhart Tolle’s teachings are the main inspiration for our campaign called Imagine All the People. Another powerful inspiration is the video clip of the young girl giving a presentation to the United Nations in 1992. Some 17 years later, it is still a desperate appeal of the children. How do we do more? I'm doing my best to change from within, yet how can we do more at the same time? Like Thich Nhat Hanh, I don't want to be only sitting in meditation while the war is raging outside. Engaged buddhism is what he called his decision to combine mindfulness with intentional action.

Excerpt from Peace is Every Step

Mindfulness Must Be Engaged

"After careful reflection, we decided to do both – to go out and help people and to do so in mindfulness. We called it engaged Buddhism. Mindfulness must be engaged. Once there is seeing, there must be acting. Otherwise, what is the use of seeing?"

Thich Nhat Hanh

Nhat Hanh explains how the idea of engaged Buddhism came into being. “When I was in Vietnam, so many of our villages were being bombed. Along with my monastic brothers and sisters, I had to decide what to do. Should we continue to practice in our monasteries, or should we leave the meditation halls in order to help the people who were suffering under the bombs? After careful reflection, we decided to do both – to go out and help people and to do so in mindfulness. We called it engaged Buddhism. Mindfulness must be engaged. Once there is seeing, there must be acting. Otherwise, what is the use of seeing?

We must be aware of the real problems of the world. Then, with mindfulness, we will know what to do and what not to do to be of help. If we maintain awareness of our breathing and continue to practice smiling, even in difficult situations, many people, animals, and plants will benefit from our way of doing things. Are you massaging our Mother Earth every time your foot touches her? Are you planting seeds of joy and peace? I try to do exactly that with every step, and I know that our Mother Earth is most appreciative.

Peace is every step. Shall we continue our journey?”

In continuing the journey here in West Texas, we are coming together and at the same time focusing our efforts on healing two very destructive conditions for humanity, the first being "street children" on our planet and the other is human trafficking of children. Our campaign is called Imagine All the People and our symbol is the peace sign. Imagine all the people of the world living in peace and harmony. It is our original reality. Let’s get involved in a very real way and get back to it!

Street children live under terrible conditions. They experience (sexual) child abuse, violence, and child exploitation. Despite all that, they have to survive. They usually beg and sing hoping people will give them money.

Human Trafficking in Atlanta, Georgia, USA - right in our own backyard!

Atlanta ranks as one of the highest U.S. cities for child sex trafficking. Up-to-date figures are that 200 -300 children a month are exploited there. It is a 32 billion dollar world-wide industry. Something we believed could only happen somewhere else is happening in our own backyard. The children want their freedom. They just want to go home.
